Pumpkin Spice

Pumpkin Spice - The From Scratch Body

No, there’s no pumpkin involved. Pumpkin pie spice, now so common to use for everything autumnal and more commonly known as pumpkin spice, is a super easy blend to make at home. No need to give Starbucks all your money anymore!

I’m about to upgrade your autumn.

You are making your OWN pumpkin spice mix. You don’t need to buy it ready made, or to buy ready made drinks and overpriced baked goods because you want that lovely spice smell and flavour; I’m going to reveal to you how simple this is.

All that is required is four different ground spices and a container to keep them in, and you will be ready to make your own pumpkin pie, PSL (pumpkin spice latte), autumnal chai latte, pumpkin spice crumpets, banana bread… The sky is the limit! I am making everything pumpkin spiced this autumn and I won’t even apologise for being basic.

Pumpkin Spice

Makes 1 small jar

Total time: 5 minutes

  • 3 tbsp ground cinnamon

  • 3 tbsp ground ginger

  • 3 tbsp ground nutmeg

  • 2 tbsp ground cloves

  • 2 tbsp ground allspice

Instructions

You guessed it; all you have to do is mix the ground spices together well and keep in an airtight jar, ready to take out whenever you want to give something that heavenly autumnal smell and flavour.

By the way, “allspice” is a confusing name. It is a spice made from the dry, unripe berry of Pimenta dioica, mostly found in warm climates like central America. It was named allspice as it was experienced as combining the flavours of nutmeg, clove and cinnamon. If you agree, you might find that you can do without it in this mix. I personally feel like allspice adds something a little different than those other spices, so I love including it. It’s totally up to you!

I would really love to know what you will be using the pumpkin spice mix for! Share on Instagram and tag @TheFromScratchBody and hashtag #TheFromScratchBody so I don’t miss it!
