Go Through Your Kitchen Cupboards

Do your cupboards just fill up with stuff and you don’t really know how, or with what? It might be time to go through them and see what you’ve got - by the end you might have cleared some space and even got some inspiration!

Tidying seems a chore, but this clear-out can be so rewarding.

Put on some music or your favourite podcast, and roll up your sleeves. Open up your kitchen cupboards and take everything out. I mean everything.

Our kitchen cupboards often end up hiding away things and so we buy it again, not knowing that we are stocking up on something until we have too much to use it all before it goes off. Doubling up on spices, salt, condiments or crackers is very easy to do when you never check your cupboards.

Try to find a helpful way to categorise your ingredients, and place it back in a way that will be practical to you - and that will remind you to use everything you’ve got in there. If you find certain things that you never use, be honest with yourself. Is this something you just need to see in front of you in order to remember to use it? Then it needs to live somewhere else. Will you never use it in your cooking? Then maybe give it to someone else or get rid of it.

If you find something in your cupboard that you can’t even think of when or how to use, then take a minute to browse the internet for recipes that contain it. Make a note and remember to try it! This can inspire a whole new recipe. Often we just need to rejig things a bit, we might have two half full boxes of the same thing and we can clear some space - perhaps for new ingredients that you are interested to try but thought you didn’t have space for.

The truth is, cupboards that are packed full of things so we can hardly see it all, is actually not inspiring. It makes you feel like you don’t know your own kitchen. It’s yours to use, and space and order in your cupboards is much more helpful on your from-scratch journey. Give it a go this week!
