Apple Sauce
Makes 1 large jar
Prep time: 5 minutes | Cook time: 30-45 minutes
4 apples
2 tbsp maple/agave/date syrup or honey
1 tbsp salted butter
1/2 cup water
Optional: 1 tsp cinnamon
Optional: 1 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
Core and peel your apples and cut in to chunks. Put in pan with 1/2 cup of water or so, and put on medium to low heat to simmer, with a lid on. Add your sweetener and butter, and if you are using it, cinnamon and/or lemon juice (this is nice to add if you are using sweet apples). Let everything simmer and keep stirring, when the apples go soft you can mash them a bit to help the process along but they will get pretty mushy by themselves.
Let cool and pour into a jar or bottle and use as a side to pork dishes, roast dinners, on your porridge, with some ice cream or yoghurt, or however you would like to use it!
Vegan option:
You can omit the butter if you want.
Sweetness/tartness of apple:
I love using tart apples for this (ideally green apples straight from a tree or optionally cooking apples), but everyone is different. Try making it with different apples if you get a chance!
